The archipelago capital, Turku, located on the southwestern coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, is the country’s oldest city. Turku is known for its rich history, dating back to the Middle Ages, and was once the capital of Finland until 1812. The city is a vibrant cultural and business hub, featuring landmarks like the Turku Castle and Turku Cathedral. The Aura River, which flows through the city, is lined with charming cafes, restaurants, and museums, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors.  

Herrankukkaro, also known as ”Mama’s Pocket,” is a unique recreational center located in Rymättylä, in the heart of the Finnish archipelago. This distinctive venue is built around a traditional fisherman’s homestead. It is wonderful place to experience truly and unique way the archipelago spirit! It’s peaceful heaven, an old fishing community. They say them main themes are detachment, authenticity, archaic traditions and especially simplicity. The special place provides pure joy by returning to nature and might refresh your childhood memories.

Herrankukkaro Mama’s Pocket | 3 nights

The traditional buildings on Herrankukkaro’s old fisherman’s homestead are a variety of different sizes and offer comfortable, idyllic moments and sweet, feather-light dreams. The ripple of the waves and the tranquil environment of the home-stead guarantee a deep sleep. Herrankukkaro does not have one or two-person hotel suites, but our cottages have all of the modern amenities, such as showers and bathroom facilities.

Day 1 | Arrival Turku (-)

Welcome to Turku! Meet you local guide and take you for a 1,5 hour guided walking tour around Turku Highligts. Turku – a vibrant modern city with a 800 year history. Finnish history and culture have their origin here. On the tour you’ll visit in the Turku Cathedral and continues in the Old Turku and along the Aura River. We will also visit the modern center. You will get tips on what to do in Turku or surroundings, restaurants, bars and shopping. And hear stories of the people of Turku. Highlights include Turku Cathedral, Great Old Square, Aura Riverside, Turku Library, Turku Market Square, Turku Market Hall, City Hall, Riverboats, museums.

Day 2 | Turku Castle (B)

Guided tour in Turku Castle which is a medieval fortress and is one of the country’s most significant historical landmarks. Turku Castle has served as a military fortress, administrative center, and residence over the centuries. The castle is situated at the mouth of the Aura River and has been expanded and renovated multiple times, reflecting various architectural styles from different periods. It played a crucial role during the reign of Duke John of Finland and Catherine Jagellon in the mid-16th century. Rest of the day free. Overnight in Solo Sokos Seurahuone or similar.

Day 3 | Naantali and Mama’s Pocket Experience (B+L+D)

After hotel breakfast group have time on own in Turku and after check-out the bus transfer to Rymättylä and Herrankukkaro „Mama’s Pocket“ archipelago site via Naantali. It’s only 20 min drive and Naantali is charming town known for its picturesque old town. Short guided walk in Naantali center and lunch break at Naantali harbor area.

OPTIONAL with extra charge: Boat transfer from Turku – Herrankukkaro approx 1,5h/one way.

The bus continues to Rymättylä and Herrankukkaro Mama’s Pocket approx. 30 min drive. Welcome to Herrankukkaro! As a welcome drink, enjoy our traditional archipelago ”tervaplöro” – a drink guaranteed to put you in a good mood. During the warmer months, we offer apple and rhubarb juice, served on our seaside campfire. You’ll also hear a warm greeting from the host of Herrankukkaro, along with a brief introduction to the services we offer, our history, and the surrounding archipelago.

Accommodation: Herrankukkaro Mama’s Pocket cabins and cottages. All are a pit different, but very charming and authentic. All have own toilet, shower and private sauna and kitchenet.

Smoke sauna experience
You will have a unique opportunity to experience the gentle and unforgettable sauna heat in the world’s largest Earth Smoke Sauna, that can fit 124 persons! The sauna has been heated for more than ten hours and is ready for you to enjoy. Warm and cold-water pools of the Archipelago spa are available for your use free of charge.

Evening snack by open fire
Enjoy a relaxed dining experience featuring grilled sausage and fish, fresh salads, and honey-roasted root vegetables straight from the campfire. We also serve Herrankukkaro’s own archipelago bread with sea buckthorn butter, plus a cup of cheerful coffee or tea. Meals are served at our covered beach shelter or in a cozy indoor space if the weather calls for it.

Social evening
Spend the evening enjoying of good company, lovely atmosphere and excellent service! Our facilities are ideal for evening entertainment. If you wish, we can arrange an evening program for you, which can be, for example, a troubadour, musician or a larger band. Karaoke equipment is also available for rent. Of course, you can bring your own program with you, as best suits you!

Day 4 | Mama’s Pocket | Silent rows, forest trails, good games (B+L+D)

Morning start with Silent retreat. Rowing silently in a traditional rowboat at sunrise in the arms of the nearby islands. Talking is prohibited. We just enjoy the beauty of the awakening nature, the silence, the beauty, the peace and the atmosphere.

Breakfast is served at 08-10:00. Nutritious and full filling Archipelago breakfast by our hostess gives you liveliness and energy.

The path of Herrankukkaro
About one-kilometer-long forest trail explores Herrankukkaro and its nature and guided by ancient monuments, makes a time travel to the time of the Great Wrath in the form of Tapani Lövfings adventures in the waters of Rymättylä. During the trip, a group task and an identification task will be done.

Crofter’s outdoor games
Fun in the spirit of traditional outdoor games. Sports according to season, including archery, blind obstacle course, ball-throwing with the “wrong” hand, vine rope, team problem-solving games etc. – group games in teams. A good time will be had by all!

Lunch by Herrankukkaro’s own hostess is served in genuine Old Fisherman’s Village style. Topped with a sweet dessert and warm cup of coffee or tea.

Angling contest on the dock / Ice fishing contest on the ice
When was the last time you fished using worms for bait? Rods and worms are provided for participants. A peaceful atmosphere, but an exciting competition!

Smoke sauna experience is also available in the evening before dinner and socializing.

Koivuniemen Janne’s archipelago buffet, a popular classic, delicious archipelago style menu introducing genuine flavors from the nature. The menu can slightly change according to the seasonal variation. APPETIZER TABLE: green salad, Rymättylä’s own vinegar-salt pickles, home-made cheese with lingonberry jam, hard-boiled eggs, raw pickled Atlantic salmon, our own warm-smoked meat, different kinds of herring marinated in herbs and wild berries. Home-baked archipelago bread together with sea buckthorn butter. At least four kinds of fish smoked, ember-roasted and broiled on the beach by the host. MAIN DISH TABLE: root vegetables cooked with honey, vegetable gratin, chicken in sea buckthorn sauce, Kirveenrauma meat stew and boiled potatoes. DESSERT TABLE: the hostess’s berry dessert surprise, coffee and tea.

Day 5 | Mama’s Pocket | Smugglers and survivors (B+L+D)

Breakfast is served 08-10:00.

Fyke boat trip to the Alcohol Cave of the Smuggler King
Boat trip to a close-by island where you’ll climb the uneven paths with the aid of ropes all the way to the cave once resided by smugglers where you can have a sip to taste their product. Our guide will lead you through events and times of old smugglers.

Lunch is served in genuine Old Fisherman’s Village style.

Floating in drysuit
Different types of activities can be created by using the floating survival suits. Adventurous survival game increases the adrenaline levels, whereas a calm floating in the rhythm of the waves, just watching the sky, is an extremely relaxing experience. Whatever you choose, you will enjoy memorable moments. This activity can be realized in the summer time as well as in the winter, floating in a prepared ice hole. Everyone gets help when wearing the suits and a guide will always join the floating team. Available for 25 persons at a time, for bigger groups two activities can be combined.

Smoke sauna experience also available at the evening.

Archipelago BBQ menu Appetizer table: Green salad topped with the host’s dressing, mushroom salad, marinated tomato onion salad, potato salad and garlic vinegar-salt pickles. Main dish table: Various sausages, spicy potato wedges, smoked pork, BBQ ribs, chicken skewers and warm vegetables. Dessert table Hostess’s berry dessert surprise, coffee and tea Glow-fried salmon can be added at extra cost.

Day 6 | Departure (B)

After breakfast, check-out by 11:00 and farewells to your archipelago hosts! Transfer to Turku or optionally Helsinki airport.
